One of the great gifts of Stephen's life was sharing his intimate knowledge of Yosemite, which he literally knew from top to bottom. Steve often included wildlife in his pieces and sometimes suggested a narrative, but this pure landscape is a deliberate departure... almost certainly inspired by the dramatic images of Albert Bierstadt and other 19th-century painters of the west.
